Subcutaneous Injections
A subcutaneous injection is a method of administering medication into the fatty layer of tissue just under the skin. Medications administered by subcutaneous injection include drugs that can be given in small volumes like insulin and some hormones. Other drugs such as pain medications like morphine and hydromorphone can be given this way as well. Drugs that prevent nausea and vomiting like metoclopramide or dexamethasone can also be given via subcutaneous injection.

Our nurses are highly trained and experienced in administering subcutaneous medications and understand the signs as symptoms of adverse reactions for the medications they are delivering. Our nurses use clinical skills to determine if a medication is contraindicated and are able to liaise with your GP or medical team to implement suitable alternative medicaitrons.
